Two Summer Scents

summer-fragrances-perfume-scents-calvin-klein-ck2-ck-estee-lauder-bronze-goddessWhen it comes to fragrances, I usually go for something quite dark and musky. Basically my fragrance wardrobe is overloaded with overpowering heavy night-time appropriate scents which don’t really suit the Summer season too well. In Summer, I do love a light and fresh fragrance that isn’t too in your face and heavy. Recently I have picked up two newbies that fit the bill perfectly and I couldn’t be more obsessed with light airy scents!

First up is a real summer scent, Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess. This is essentially Summer in a bottle, in fact it is also a Summer exclusive as this scent is only available during the Summer so act quick if you are interested in this one! This scent is an Eau Fraiche so is pretty weak in perfume terms however comes in a hefty 100ml bottle at pretty good value. I picked this up when I was away so got it a good bit cheaper but it retails around the £50 mark. Moving onto the best bit however, the actual scent itself. With notes of Coconut, Vanilla and Mandarin, it’s not hard to get the Summer vibes from it! Basically, if you love something sweet and summery then you will love this!

Next is another new-ish release from Calvin Klein in the form of ck2, the second edition to their genderless fragrance.  A scent I have been desperate to get my hands on since it was released as this is just so beautiful! First of all, shout out to the unique minimalistic bottle design which is rather quirky. I picked up this scent in the biggest size being 100ml but there are smaller editions too. This size retails for £53 however I picked it up 40% off at Urban Outfitters when they had a deal on! That deal is sadly over but there are a lot of discounts around to be found! Again this is another beautifully fresh and airy scent with notes of Mandarin (similar to BG), violet leaf and sandalwood. I find this scent pretty long wearing which is good for an Eau de Toilette and it is isn’t overly sweet in scent probably because it is genderless but instead quite woody and crisp. I think this is going to be a fragrance I will love for a long time to come!

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne

Jo Malone Pomegranate NoirIt’s been a long time coming but I finally checked this one off my wishlist. I have heard so much about the Jo Malone scents and I couldn’t wait to add one to my collection. Something I love about the range is the varied unique scents that are totally different to the usual familiar scents of the fragrance industry. I took a trip to a Jo Malone counter not too long ago for a little sniff around of the scents and fell pretty much in love with the Pomegranate Noir scent. When it comes to fragrances, I do like something really different and quite dark so this was totally up my street.

The top note in this scent is obviously Pomegranate, the heart note contains Casablanca Lily and the base note is Guaiacwood. The pomegranate gives the scent a rich fruity feel with the lilies giving it that heady and powerful scent that I love. The addition of Guaiacwood gives it that slight spiciness and sensuality. It has quite a masculine feel to it without being too much. If you aren’t a fan of any scents which are heady and quite overpowering this one is probably one to avoid. For me though its just perfect.

Jo Malone doesn’t come cheap with a 30ml bottle costing £40 with the packaging and scent making this a luxurious treat or the perfect gift. Talking of packaging, how incredibly cute is the ribbon tied box!? The slim small bottle is also ideal for handbags and traveling unlike many other bulky fragrances. I am basically in love with this scent and I can see myself making another trip to that Jo Malone counter again shortly!

Versace Crystal Noir

IMG_5760Now if you had seen my Christmas wishlist well you may have remembered seeing this beauty. The Versace Crystal Noir EDP. Well as you can see my wishes certainly came true as this beautiful jeweled top bottle is sitting rather nicely on top of my dressing table. I first became familiar with this strong scent a few years ago while going on the ultimate fragrance hunt in Boots, lets just say I left with quite a “few” perfume samples. At first I wasn’t the biggest fan of this scent but the overwhelming scent left quite a mark after leaving the sample in a drawer to gather dust. A few years on and I have since been dying to get my hands on it, Christmas 2014 was my time.

Now in terms of describing scents I am no expert, I just tend to go with that smells damn good or no I don’t like that but I will try my best on this one. It is very different to any scent I have ever owned, its a very strong and sophisticated scent. It definitely lives up to the Versace image with a very feminine, seductive and powerful feel to it. It has a strong floral scent to it with notes of gardenia, amber and tuberose. It has a long lasting scent which is just what I am looking for, however it may not live up to my all time favourite fragrance Alien by Thierry Mugler but its close enough. In my fragrance terms, I’m loving it!

Below are some top stories from this month particularly this week associated with the fashion world.

2. Alexander McQueen to release fragrance

Calling all Alexander McQueen fans! For all those who adore the McQueen fashion house and cannot afford the wealthy items or for those who can afford it well there is great news for all as it has been confirmed that the British fashion house has signed a licensing deal with P&G Prestige to launch a fragrance for both men and women. There is no release date for the new scent yet but work is stated to begin immediately. Creative Director, Sarah Burton stated after announcing the deal  ‘Creating a fragrance feels like a natural progression as it enhances the world of Alexander McQueen, I’m very excited by this opportunity to collaborate with P&G Prestige, to work together to create a scent that captures the unique sensibility of the house.’ How exciting!! So who will be joining me in queuing up for the new fragrance once released!?

3.Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana found guilty of tax evasion

And the last piece of news today is the news of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the founders of fashion house Dolce and Gabbana who today were found guilty of tax evasion and have each been sentenced to one year and eight months in prison. The lawsuit links to the house’s 2004 sale of its D&G lines to Luxembourg-based holding company Gado Srl which Italian authorities believe was a way of evading Italy’s high taxes that are charges that the designers have strongly denied. However designers are expected to appeal against the decision.
